The Antonym of Misogyny
Donna M. Levy
When the first couple partook of the educational fruit,
They catapulted all humanity into the realm of polarities,
Making life a balancing act on a tightrope between opposites.
Positive and negative.
Good and evil.
Conflict and peace.
Predators and prey.
Male and female.
Misogyny and ____________?
What? No antonym for misogyny? How can such an omission be?
There are no one-sided coins in this universe. Just ask Newton.
Is it that on the one hand, we have:
and on the other hand, we have nothing?
When there is no word symbol for an idea,
It is difficult to think the thought.
For every day, there is a night.
After every hither comes a thither.
What good is a vice without a versa?
Or, for that matter, a tit . . . without a tat?
An uncreated antonym offers no justice, no corrective,
Nor any possibility for a reconciliation.
So, come on, folks, either coin a word or expunge one.

Beautifully expressed observation.
As it came through on email (from Lauran Strait?) there is a typo in the last line.

Donna Never crossed my mind that there was no antonym for misogyny..How clever of you to realize that and then, even more cleverly, put that realization into a great piece.
Food for thought Barbara Dunn Hartin

I guess you have to convince Bertrand Russell first. He denied the theory of Hegel on Thesis and Anti-thesis. And insisted that the matter is one sided.
Good shot indeed.

The word is misandry.

I have pondered this for quite some time and come to the conclusion that women don't need such a word, because most harbor, in some part of their hearts, resentment and distrust, if not hatred, of men. A woman friend even told me something similar: "We're more upfront. We're simply man haters." Now I find, thru this forum, that such an antonym does exist -- misandry.
Thanks and now I can put men and women on an equal footing in their never ending war.
Mysogynist? Moi? No, just wary.
