Grief
Michelle Mandolia

Eventually, it sighs away.

You begin to stretch out in bed again,
your waking breaths no longer heavy and hard to swallow.
You slip your feet into the cool corners of your sheets
and tuck yourself back into sleep.

Like summer heat at dusk,
it slowly dissipates into the darkening air around you
until it is both nowhere
and everywhere at once.
